New Delhi airspace to be closed on opening and closing days of the Commonwealth Games

As per a press release by the Press Information Bureau, Government of India the airspace in a 300km radius around the nation’s capital New Delhi shall be closed for operations on the opening and closing days of the Commonwealth Games.

The Delhi Airspace will be closed from 5.00 pm (11:30 UTC) to 10.00 pm (16:30 UTC) on 3rd and 14th October 2010 – The opening and closing days of the Common Wealth Games.

No flight shall be permitted to take off/land at the Delhi airport and other airports within 300 kms zone around it except:

  • Routine commercial flights
  • IAF, BSF and ARC flights
  • State owned aircraft/helicopters flying the governor or chief minister within the state and subject to necessary clearance from ministry of home affairs.

Flights of micro light aircraft and hang gliders from flying clubs and other airports shall not be permitted in the above mentioned zone and period around Delhi.

Safdarjung airport shall remain closed during the above mentioned dates and period except for IAF helicopters which may be deployed on emergency duty or VVIP [Very Very Important Persons] duty.

Pilots should check for the appropriate NOTAM’s.
